Sanitizers:
We recommend that every pool or spa have an ionizer which will
reduce chemicals 80% to 90%. For pools we recommend model
SPDS. For
spas use model SSDS, or Instant Ions model IONS-25 and a Copper Test
kit
model CTK. Our PURITY
combination salt
chlorine generator and ionizer model P40RI is
the best system for complete sanitation of a pool, which only needs to
maintain a very low .2 ppm of chlorine. For
a spa our PURITY model PSPA is the best system for complete sanitation,
which only needs to maintain a very low .2 to .5 ppm of chlorine.
If you must have chemical free water in
your pool, we
recommend a THUNDER

HOW IT WORKS
Ionizers
kill bacteria and
algae in your pool. The ionizer electrodes have a small DC
voltage applied to them which forces ions to
pass from one electrode to the other. The ions are caught up in
the water as they pass between the electrodes. These ions attack
and kill the bacteria and algae in your
pool. To maintain clean, clear water all you need to add is a
sanitizer (chlorine or non chlorine) to your pool about once a week to
shock and kill all the organics in your pool. So, stop
swimming in harsh expensive chemicals and enjoy the spring like water
of an ionized pool with the Sunshine Ionizer.
What about a cartridge
ionizer like
Nature 2?
You should
not use a cartridge
ionizer. They are very expensive, have to be replaced every few
months, and you have
very little or no control on the amount of ionization being
produced. They are sold without a test kit so you never know what
the ion level is and if it is safe to reduce the sanitizer level.
The best method of ionizing a pool and the
lowest cost over time is with an
electronic ionizer.

All our ionizers
are manufactured by Sunshine Pool Products, LLC and they have two types
of
ionizers. The
Aqua Ionizer is a low cost ionizer with copper electrodes. It
requires a
low .2 ppm chlorine residual maintained in the pool with monthly
chlorine shocks. The Sunshine Ionizer has electrodes made of a
copper, silver, and zinc alloy, and have a
higher initial cost, but cost less over time as the electrodes are
large and last about 5 times longer. The electrodes provide
superior purification so the pool requires less chlorine. This
provides superior water quality.

What Chemicals Will I Needed to Use With a
Pool Aqua Ionizer?
With Aqua Ionizer
low .2 ppm
chlorine residual will need to be maintained in the pool with monthly
chlorine shocks. For
bromine
maintain .4 ppm. It has been proven that maintaining .2 ppm
chlorine
and .2 ppm copper is more effective sanitation than using just chlorine
at
2 ppm. You must also maintain your pH between 7.2 and 7.6.

What is different about the Sunshine
Ionizer?
The Sunshine
Ionizer electrodes are made of a custom made
copper, silver, and zinc alloy designed for water treatment and are two
to ten times
larger than most ionizers so our electrodes last longer, 3 to 5 years
on
most pools, and our replacement electrodes are a better value.
Check

copper
only, or just copper and silver, which is not as effective as our

of our Instant Ions to add to your pool at start-up so your pool is

level before your pool is ionized. Other ionizers use up to 50%
of
the electrodes in just the first few weeks to bring the ion level to

How are the Pool Ionizers Installed?
The 2" PVC cell is glued into the pool
circulation system after the filter, and the controller is connected to
the pump timer circuit so it has power only when the circulation pump
is running. Models with solar panels require a sunny south facing
wall or roof near the pool equipment to mount the solar panel.
What Chemicals Will I Needed to Use With a
Pool
Sunshine Ionizer?
It is necessary to add an oxidizing agent
(chlorine) periodically to help break down excess organic debris,
suntan and body oils
ext. You can just add 3 ppm a liquid chlorine
each week after you are done swimming for the day. The liquid
chlorine is
not
stabilized and is usually dissipated by the next day so you are
swimming
virtually chemical free. You can use granular chlorine to shock
your
pool if you dissolve it in water first, but never use calcium
hypo chlorite as it hardens the water and creates scale.
For chlorine free swimming you can use a non chlorine shock instead of
chlorine,
however, we recommend using chlorine. Alternatively, you can
maintain
a constant chlorine level at .2 ppm with chlorine tabs. For
bromine
maintain .4 ppm. It has been proven that maintaining .2 ppm
chlorine
and .2 ppm copper is more effective sanitation than using just chlorine
at
2 ppm. You must also maintain your pH between 7.2 and 7.6.
Is an Ionizer Compatible with a Salt
Chlorine
Generator or an Ozone Generator?
Yes, all our ionizer, salt
chlorine generator, and ozone generator systems are compatible with
each
other. We
recommend that every pool or spa have an ionizer so pools with any salt
generator should also have an ionizer.
Do you have
larger Ionizers?
Yes, we have several models of
commercial ionizers that will treat up to 1,000,000 gallons with just
one ionizer, and even larger pools can be treated by using multiple
ionizers. These ionizers are often used for treatment of water

IONIZATION QUESTIONS AND
ANSWERS
What is Ionization?
The electronic release of copper, silver, and zinc Ions.
What is an Ion?
Ions
are positively charged atoms.
How does Ionization work?
A safe low voltage DC current
is
applied to the copper, silver, and zinc electrodes. As the ions
attempt
to move from one electrode to the other, they become suspended in the
water.
How does copper, silver, and zinc ionization
purify
water? The copper, silver, and zinc ions disrupt the enzyme
balance of bacteria and virus in your water.
Is ionization all that you need for your water?
It is necessary to add an oxidizing agent periodically to help break
down excess organic debris, suntan and body oils ext. Most of our
customers just add a gallon of liquid bleach (Clorox) each week after
they are done swimming for the day. The bleach is not stabilized
and is usually dissipated
by the next day so you are swimming virtually chemical free.
Using
a non chlorine oxidizer allows you to swim shortly after application so
you
never have to swim in chemicals again!
How is ionization safer than chemicals?
Most, if not all of the chemicals
used
to purify water are caustic and or toxic. Many are now thought to
be
Carcinogenic. Copper , silver, and zinc are safe for drinking
water
as well as swimming pool water in quantities much greater than
necessary
for purification.
How is ionization more pleasant than chemicals?
The need for high levels of chemicals is eliminated.
Also
eliminated are the strong chemical odors, damaging effects on hair,
skin,
fabrics, liners and pumping equipment. Furthermore, you eliminate the
need
for frequent trips to the store to purchase heavy containers of
chemicals.
Chemical storage is no longer a problem.
What are the operational costs of ionization?
In most cases, the electrodes will last 3 to 5 years and
are
relatively inexpensive to replace. The only other cost is the
electrical
consumption which is only a few dollars a year.
How often will I have to test the water?
You will need to test the ion level every few weeks and
maintain
proper water balance. The ion system is pH neutral so it will not
change your water balance like chemicals do.
What about bromine?
Bromine compounds are about 1/3 chlorine anyway. There is no
stabilizer for bromine so it is used up in about 2 hours in an outdoor
pool. Bromine
is more expensive than chlorine and still burns the eyes and skin.
