THUNDERSTORM Mixing Injector System

Installation and Operating Instructions

Model TMIS

The supplied components include:

1.      THUNDERSTORM Mixing Chamber

2.      ¾” Pipe Assembly

3.      Parts bag with Injector, Six 1” Hose Clamps, Three ¾” Adaptor, 4” of ¾” ID Hose. ¾” Ball Valve, ½” x ¼” Adaptor, 2 Wire Ties

4.      5 ft and 25” of Vinyl Hose ¾" ID

5.      ¾” x 1-1/2” or ¾” x 2” PVC Tee

6.      1-1/2” Thread x 1-1/2” or 1-1/2” Thread x 2” PVC Tee

Preparation

1.      Install ozonator according to the instructions that came with your unit.  All glue joints should be done with PVC glue and primer if required.  All threaded fittings should be sealed with thread sealant.  We recommend 4 to 5 wraps with Teflon tape.  All hose claps must be installed on both ends of ¾” ID hose before installing onto barb fittings.

Piping Connection

1.      Turn off the power to your pool equipment.

2.      Install the ¾” threaded x 1-1/2” or ¾” threaded x 2” tee between the pump and filter, and the 1-1/2” threaded x 1-1/2” or 1-1/2” threaded x 2” tee after the filter and all other pool equipment.  Leave room to install a ball valve or 5 lb spring check valve after the filter in case they may be needed.  See FIG. 1.  The tee after the filter must be installed on a horizontal pipe and must be installed so that the threaded port is strait up so the mixing chamber will be installed vertical.

3.      If you are not sure how to install the fittings you should have a swimming pool contractor do it for you.  If you are unable to install a tee between the pump and filter you can install both tees after the filter with a ball valve or spring check valve installed between the two tees and adjusted for the proper ozone flow.  Installing the one tee before the filter is recommend if possible.

4.      Thread the ½” x ¼” adaptor into the top of the mixing chamber.

5.      Thread the mixing chamber onto the threaded tee.

6.      Glue the ¾” tee assembly onto the mixing chamber so that it rises strait up above the mixing chamber.  Make sure you get a good glue joint.

7.      Push the 3/8” clear tube onto the fitting on the top of the mixing chamber.

8.      Install the 25” x ¾” ID hose to the hose fitting at the top of the ¾” assembly and to the injector.  The arrow on the injector must be pointing up.

9.      Thread a ¾” adaptor into the tee installed before the filter.

10.  Thread adaptors to both ends of the ¾” ball valve.

11.  Install the 5 ft ¾” hose to the ¾” adaptor just installed before the filter and to either end of the ball valve,

12.  Install the 4” x ¾” hose to the other end of the ball valve and to the bottom end of the injector.

13.  Use pliers to squeeze the clamps and slide into position on all ¾” ID hose and fittings.

14.   Connect the 3/8” OD tubing from the ozonator to the center port of the injector.  This is the ozone gas feed line.

15.  Install the 2 black wire ties around the mixing chamber and ¾” hose at the top and bottom of the mixing chamber.  Do NOT over tighten the wire ties on the hose until it is pinched.

Startup

  1. If you purchased one of our ionizer systems, make sure it is installed at the same time.
  2. Turn on power to your pool equipment.
  3. Clean your pool filter.  Do not proceed until you clean the filter.

Operation

  1. Start your pool pump. Check ozonator and make sure it is on.
  2. The water will fall through the mixing chamber and slowly fill from the bottom.  It should fill within three minutes.
  3. Look to see if air is being injected into the tubing after the injector and into your pool.  If it is not you may have too much backpressure from the pool inlets and you may need to change them to larger sizes.  The backpressure should be about 2 to 5 lb and the filter pressure should be at least 5 lb.  If you still cannot get the injector to inject air you will need to install a ball valve just before the tee installed after the filter, and close it until air begins to flow.  See FIG. 1.  Note the filter pressure as you close the valve, as it should only increase 2 or 3 lb.  If you have a two-speed pump a 5 lb spring check valve must be installed before the tee that is installed after the filter.
  4. If the filter pressure is always above 15 lb, then the ¾” ball valve needs to be closed until air stops flowing and then opened just slightly so the air is flowing.  This will prevent too much water and air in the bypass loop.  Air and water should be flowing up the 3/8” tubing at the top of the mixing chamber.  If it is flowing down it is because of high filter pressure and the valve needs closed until the air and water are flowing up and air is being injected.  Wait 5 minutes between adjustments.
  5. Do not operate ozonator unless the filter pump is running, and air is being injected into the pool.
  6. Watch the mixing chamber, as it should always be full with water and air swirling around.  The clear tubing will have some air and water flow upwards.  The mixing chamber will begin to turn brown in a few weeks, but you will still be able to see that it is working properly.
  7. Now you will have the world bests injector system, and you will enjoy watching the mixing action inside the mixing chamber.
  8. Keep these instructions and your sales receipt in a safe place.  Refer to these instructions if you have any problems.  Do not call Sunshine Pool Products or your dealer with chemistry problems or questions.
